Intellectual Stimulation, Reward and a Fast-Track to Partnership

As a small but perfectly formed boutique IP business, we are looking to add confident and experienced talent to our current team of patent professionals, especially in the field of Computer-Implemented Inventions “CIIs”, communication technologies, artificial intelligence “AI” and musicology

As a partnership, we are responsible for absolute control and instruction of major trial-related decisions, such as the recently significant decision in [2023] EWHC 2948 (Ch): Emotional Perception vs Comptroller General on the fundamental nature of computer programs and the patentability of artificial neural networks “ANNs.” Simply put, this is us and what we do, and this is what our attorneys have done throughout their careers.

We are working at the cutting edge of technologies for which statutory exclusion may apply both in the UK, the EPO and internationally. This includes applications in music, financial services involving blockchain, the IoT and web 3.0 as well as core artificial intelligence. The commercial experiences and track record of our partners regularly attract new business enquiries and have seen the consolidation into the firm of major international portfolios.

We are seeing this type of complex work increasing, so we are offering an exceptional opportunity for the right candidate, preferably at finals standard or recently qualified, to join our team and to take on a role which will attract growing influence and eventual leadership. We are acutely conscious of the need for succession planning. The technical background is not a list of hard-set requirements, but reflective of the nature of the work that you will be exposed to for a variety of well-established clients. It is more important that you have underlying business and professional skills, an inquisitive mind, an openness to embrace new technologies and a desire to develop ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking capable of overcoming entrenched beliefs. The role will also require client development and is likely to involve some limited travel to foreign associates and conferences.

Although based in Leeds and Bath, the nature of our client base is both national and international and so we make use of communication technologies to permit effective “home office” working a realistic option. A competitive package including benefits will be available for the right candidate.

If you believe that you have the drive and desire to push some significant 21st century technologies to the next level of IP protection, please provide a CV and brief covering letter and/or contact Bruce Dearling at bcd@hepworthbrowne.com or phone him directly on +44 7515 28456 to
