Food Technology

Creative thinking is often required to write patent claims

Food technology is an ever-evolving field where scientific progress meets culinary innovation. It spans a wide range of areas including novel processing techniques, advanced preservation methods, and the creation of new food ingredients and dietary products. This diversity necessitates a creative and strategic approach to drafting patent claims to protect these unique innovations effectively.

The food industry is subject to rigorous standards concerning safety, labelling, and environmental impact. Crafting patent claims in this sector requires not only a keen understanding of these regulations but also an inventive approach. Patents must be precisely tailored to navigate these legal intricacies while ensuring comprehensive intellectual property protection.

The protection of food science technology is usually associated with chemistry and mechanical processing. Given our long-term involvement in this sector of technology, we feel that our experiences are worthy of independent mention, not least because of the successes we have achieved in securing patent rights in the USA following appeal hearings at the USPTO Patent Tribunal.

Our understanding in this subject matter is particularly strong in the development of emulsifiers and processing of food coatings, including crumb production making use of twin-screw extruders “TSEs.”
