Stewart Eccles

Stewart Eccles predominantly works within the chemical and pharmaceutical fields. Stewart drafts patent applications and prosecutes the applications worldwide. He focuses on getting to know his client’s needs and goals in order to provide effective advice whilst being mindful of cost.

As such, he has developed close relationships with his clients and he has been relied upon to provide advice on all aspects of their intellectual property, including filing strategy, opposition proceedings, patent life cycle management, license agreements, freedom to operate, and high-value due diligence.

Stewart graduated from the University of Leeds with a Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry and a First Class Masters degree in Chemistry (Industrial).

Stewart’s early career focussed on patents directed towards therapeutically active molecules both in the new chemical entity space and within the field of pharmaceutical formulations. Stewart has been heavily involved in the drafting and prosecution of new chemical entity and formulation patents.

As Stewart’s experience grew so did his technical interests. As such, Stewart has also acted for clients in a range of other technical fields including organometallic catalysts, nanotechnology, medical devices, medical diagnostic techniques, air conditioning units, printable electronics, composite materials, textiles, inks and dyes.

Stewart has worked with SMEs, large enterprises, universities and individuals. He has worked extensively with start-up companies. He is acutely aware of the challenges faced by new companies and how to develop a patent strategy accordingly.
