Telecommunications
Communication is Key
We have long-standing, in-depth experience across telecommunications technologies, including acting on defensive opposition matters before the EPO.
Our technical capability was built from the early 1990s onward, beginning with practical work on foundational cellular systems for TACS and standards-essential activity within GSM patent portfolios. From there, our experience broadened to encompass the core engineering and implementation aspects of CDMA and UMTS/OFDM systems through work at Motorola. This background was then further reinforced by serving as lead external counsel for Nortel, alongside work covering legacy PSTN architectures, satellite communications, xDSL access technologies, and optical transmission and networking solutions.
The breadth and depth of this experience mean we are consistently well positioned to advise on complex communications systems technologies, reflected in the transfer to us of substantial patent portfolios formerly held by Nokia, Alcatel, and Lucent.
In addition, we have acted on and secured valuable rights across portfolios covering user authentication within downloadable software, as well as cloud-based platforms developed for mobile network operators to support the launch, management, and commercialisation of Internet of Things (IoT) deployments for enterprise customers.
